Grand rounds objectives:

Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to:

  • Describe the pathophysiology of coronary calcium and the evidence supporting CAC for cardiovascular risk stratification in primary prevention.
  • Evaluate the critiques and limitations of CAC scoring — including the gap between risk prediction and outcomes benefit.
  • Assess future directions of CAC and the role of opportunistic detection of coronary calcium on non-gated CT.
