About
Dr. Dean was the founding director of the UW Medicine Regional Heart Center and now serves as the medical director for outreach and clinical integration of the UW Medicine Heart Institute. He is a UW professor of medicine and of surgery. In addition to general cardiology, he is an expert in cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology. He has been in practice for more than 30 years. Dr. Dean's personal interests include long distance bicycling, mountaineering, sailing, and photography.
Dr. Dean earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa and his M.D. from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. He first came to the UW as an intern and resident in internal medicine, and then returned to the University of Alabama Hospitals for fellowships in cardiovascular disease and in angioplasty.
He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology and is a fellow of the American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology and is a master interventionalist of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He also earned a certificate in medical management from the UW in 2004. He is listed in "The Best Doctors in America."
