Congratulations to Julio Lamprea and Dennis Wang on securing grant funding from the American Heart Association.

Each year, the American Heart Association (AHA) distributes grant funds for a various number of projects. Physicians from all around the nation apply for funding, though only a select few actually succeed with their proposal. The purpose of the Postdoctoral Grant offered by the AHA is to push forward the research and training done by postdoctoral physicians who aren't independent. With this award, the AHA hopes to fund those who are versatile, awarding those who maintain a balance of research and clinical activity. Just last year, over 650 physicians applied for the Postdoctoral Grant, though only about 100 received the funding.

We are proud to share that UW Cardiology fellows Dr. Julio Lamprea, and Dr. Dennis Wang have been granted Postdoctoral Grants from the American Heart Association. Dr. Lamprea, mentored by Ian de Boer, PHD, received funding for his project titled "The dyslipidemia of ESRD: role of triglyceride rich-lipoproteins and association with cardiovascular disease", while Dr. Wang received AHA funding for his project "Nicotinamide riboside supplementation to enhance myocardial mitochondrial function in heart failure", mentored by Kevin O'Brien, MD, FAHA
