Protect yourself from 'holiday heart'
If you've never heard of 'holiday heart', you're not alone. As we are well within the holiday season, UW Cardiologist Eugene Yang wants you to be aware of the alcohol centered syndrome which can strike even the healthiest of individuals. The syndrome can occur if one consumes too much alcohol, and/or more alcohol usual. The sudden spike in alcohol consumption can lead to atrial fibrillation in the form of rapid or irregular heartbeats, in which those who experience any similar issues should seek medical attention. Symptoms can occur even with minimal consumption, for example a single drink, as stress and dehydration can also attribute to higher risks.
Watch the video to hear Dr. Yang speak more about the syndrome, and methods to avoid holiday heart.
Happy holidays from the Division of Cardiology!
