About

Dr. Kim is an attending physician at Harborview Medical Center and an associate professor of medicine at UW. In addition to being an expert in general cardiology and echocardiography, he focuses on preventative cardiology and vascular biology.

Dr. Kim has been involved in two main areas of research, which are both funded by the NIH. The first involves the effects of diabetes/obesity on vascular function and second involves the use of hypothermia in cardiac arrest resuscitation. Dr. Kim's research focuses on studying endothelial nitric oxide signaling and vascular inflammation. Further, his lab is interested in examining the role of insulin resistance and obesity in the development of vascular disease. Both cellular and molecular approaches are used in cell culture and mouse models.

After earning his bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley, Dr. Kim went on to earn an M.D. from UCSF. He first came to the UW as a resident in internal medicine, followed by a fellowship in cardiology. Dr. Kim is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
