Overview

ACHD Accreditation The advanced Adult Congenital Heart Disease fellowship is a two year training program offered jointly by the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital. The curriculum is designed to mirror the American Board of Internal Medicine recommended training so that graduates will be eligible to sit for the Board Examination in Adult Congenital Heart Disease.

The training program emphasizes both outpatient and inpatient care of adults with congenital heart disease. ACHDIt is an integrated program between Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington. Trainees gain experience in specialized ACHD care including the management of ACHD patients with arrhythmias, pregnancy, heart failure, those needing advanced heart failure therapy, cardiac and non-cardiac surgery. Fellows participate in research and educational initiatives during their training.

Our program accepts one to two senior fellows each year for a two year position. Applicants are welcome through either adult or pediatric cardiology training pathways and the curriculum is tailored to the background of the applicant.

Other non-ACHD faculty from the University of Washington and Seattle Children's are integrally involved in ACHD Fellowship training.

Life in Seattle

ACHD Walk for 1 in 100 with ACHD faculty, staff and family members.

UW Fellows at Heart Walk

Situated in the glorious Pacific Northwest, Seattle experiences warm summer days with low humidity and average summer temperatures in the mid 70s.  Misty rain keeps our winters temperate and our green space vibrant. Seattle’s music, food (and coffee!) scenes are diverse with many choices for the discerning connoisseur.  For avid sports fans, Seattle is home to the 2014 Super Bowl Champions – Seahawks, the 2019 Major League Soccer Cup winners – Sounders, the 2018 WNBA champs – Seattle Storm, and a new major NHL franchise – the Seattle Kraken.

For the adventurous, outdoor life thrives, with access to hundreds of hiking trails within a short drive from the city.  For longer jaunts, Seattle is situated between the San Juan Islands and several National Parks (the Olympic Mountains, the North Cascade Mountains, and Mount Rainier) for activities throughout the year.
